Logdog is a tool that monitors messages passing through syslogd and takes action based on key words and phrases. Logdog has an easy to read configuration file which allows you to specify a list of key words or phrases to alert on, and a list of commands that can be run when those words are encountered. Logdog has been featured in magazines and deployed in production networks all over the world. It sorts features like no-delay message interception for low latency alerts, comprehensive logging and debugging, proper HUP signal handling, and regular expressions for complex pattern matching.

I wrote this to help make searching remote web server log files easier. LogSearch is a sockets based program that comes in two parts, the client and server. The "server.pl" goes into your weblog directory on your web server. The client program "client.pl" is run from your workstation. You simply run client.pl and enter whatever flag you want to search your log files for i.e: Googlebot, or even .exe or ../../ .The server will receive that flag and search your log files. When it has found all the entries that match the flag it sends that data to the client program on your workstation. The client program will then write that data to a word file (.doc) for viewing.
If you are unfamiliar with setting up these types of programs I have also included some fairly detailed information that (hopefully) will help the average Windows user set this up.
This script works in both UNIX and ActiveState Perl

It will email the admin when the nameserver(s) go down, keep a log, and tell you the % uptime. It also includes a php interface for interacting with the script from the web. This tool can be combined with MRTG to graph output and see the response times.

Have you ever been installing a Perl program on your website, and it asks you for information that you don't remember or know? Most of us have experiened this at one time or another. Some of us more than once! Don't let this happen to you again. Print this "printer friendly" report, and keep it in a safe place, for future reference.

poplimitd is a daemon process that will monitor your server maillog file for POP3 or IMAP connections. Using configurable settings it monitors the rate of logins based on user account and IP address. If it finds excessive usage, it will send a preconfigured email with the users information to that user asking them to stop it. In the future it will also have the option to block the IP address. On servers that suffer from high POP3/IMAP load, this can dramatically modify user behaviour and limit POP and IMAP connections and load.

This perl script I wrote for my server to check if a process is runnning or not.
If there was no runnnning process from the software you want to watch the script will restart it.
You can use it for all kind of processes/programs that write his pid into a pid-file (most unix/linux software...). Just change the settings from the script.
